Producer

Sebastian Gomez comes from a family with a tradition of coffee farming. Together with his father Circasia, he owns La Divisa, a 13-hectare farm located at 1,700 meters in Quindío. The farm is home to beautiful shade trees, such as guamo, guayacán, gualandi, and gogal.
Sebastian is a young farmer, and along with his wife, he manages the coffee business and administrative matters. His father, John, has worked in the coffee industry for over 30 years and has been involved with the plantation since purchasing it in 1995. When Sebastian returned to Colombia in 2014, he became more interested in coffee. He had the opportunity to witness the specialty coffee movement in other countries, which inspired him to engage more deeply in the industry. Since then, they have focused on high-quality varieties, planting types like Geisha and Pink Bourbon on their farm.

Variety

Red Gesha, like other Gesha varieties, originates from Ethiopia, specifically the Gori Gesha region. The name “Gesha” (often spelled “Geisha”) refers to the mountainous region where this variety originates. Over time, Red Gesha was introduced to Central America, particularly Panama, where it gained international acclaim. Red Gesha is prized for its unique flavor and aromatic characteristics, attracting coffee enthusiasts from around the world.
Red Gesha is known for its distinct floral notes like jasmine, and fruity undertones such as peach, mango, or citrus fruits. The coffee often exhibits a delicate yet complex body and a pronounced, pleasant acidity. These attributes set Red Gesha apart from other coffee varieties and make it highly appreciated by connoisseurs seeking exceptional taste experiences.
The cultivation of Red Gesha requires specific conditions to fully develop its flavor potential. It thrives at higher altitudes (above 1500 meters above sea level), with adequate sunlight and well-drained, nutrient-rich soils. These conditions are often found in the mountainous regions of Latin American countries such as Panama, Costa Rica, and Colombia. Through meticulous cultivation and favorable environmental conditions, Red Gesha achieves its highest quality and delights with its exceptional taste profile.

Process

EF2 processing, or “Extended Fermentation 2,” is a specialized fermentation process used to achieve unique flavor profiles in coffee. During this process, coffee cherries undergo an extended fermentation period under controlled conditions, allowing for the development of complex flavors. Fermentation can last from several days to weeks, depending on desired outcomes. This process takes place in dedicated tanks where temperature, humidity, and other factors are closely monitored, enabling precise control over fermentation and influencing the final flavor profile of the coffee.
Coffee processed with EF2 is known for its intense and complex flavors. It can exhibit fruity, floral, and even wine-like notes, depending on the duration and conditions of fermentation. Such coffee stands out for its rich sweetness and distinct acidity, appealing to connoisseurs and coffee lovers worldwide. After fermentation, the coffee beans are typically dried on raised beds or in mechanical dryers to achieve optimal moisture levels before storage and export. EF2 processing represents a relatively new and innovative method that allows producers to experiment with different fermentation techniques to achieve exceptional and distinctive flavor profiles.

This is a method for those who like to celebrate the brewing process of coffee. You use a special kettle with a long spout and a paper filter. First, you pour a little water over the coffee so that it let off the gas – this is called blooming. Then, slowly pouring in the rest of the water, you let the coffee drip straight into the cup. It’s kind of a drip method for coffee. It gives you complete control over the flavour – from light and floral to strong and pronounced.
