What does coffee mean to you?

A moment of relaxation, a little pleasure, or spending quality time with loved ones. A life passion – I love discovering new flavors, playing around with coffee, and always learning and growing. A unique sensory experience – I’m all about the taste, aroma, texture, and complexity of coffee. A dose of energy – my essential companion throughout the day.

How do you usually brew your coffee?

Simple – with an automatic machine, Moka pot, or French press. I like my coffee with some extras. It depends on the coffee – I choose the brewing method based on the beans. In many ways – I love experimenting with different gear and recipes for each coffee. Usually a pour-over or espresso. I also enjoy popping into a café for a good cup.

Your favorite coffee:

Fruity, sweet, juicy, with structured acidity – from citrus and floral notes to red and dark berries. Clean, sweet, complex in taste and aroma, elegant and unique – Gesha, Red Bourbon, competition-level coffees. Rich, chocolatey, nutty, and not too acidic – intense as an espresso, smooth and creamy with milk. Naturals, anaerobics, experimental fermentations – coffees with notes of berries, tropical fruits, and even boozy.

When buying coffee:

It’s tough to find coffee that fits my budget. It’s important to me not to overpay. I’m always on the lookout for deals with free shipping. Sometimes it’s hard to choose with so many options. I like when someone gives me advice and tells me how to brew it. I’m looking for what’s trending – new, unknown flavors, unusual processing methods, and origins. It frustrates me when descriptions aren’t transparent, and scores seem inflated. Like when buying wine or whisky, I’m after the highest quality. I often buy the same coffees served at competitions and believe they’re worth it.

The challenge with coffee is:

Finding the budget, time, and patience to brew it, and then cleaning up afterward. Getting the recipe just right and knowing I’ve extracted all the potential from the beans. Brewing it well without having the most expensive gear or tons of knowledge and experience. The availability of truly delicious beans. It’s a shame that competition coffees are so hard to get.

When I want to learn something about coffee:

I go to coffee festivals, buy coffee books, ask friends, or chat with a barista at a café. I search online: YouTube, forums, roaster profiles, podcasts, and learn from my own trial and error. I take a course, learn from an expert, or compete – it’s the best way to learn. I don’t really study; coffee is meant to be enjoyed, not homework. I’ve got other hobbies that take up a lot of my time.

Which of the following describes you best?

I enjoy seasonal recipes, coffee with extras, hot or cold. I’m not too concerned about the price; it just has to be really good. Bad coffee ruins my day. I have my favourite flavours, countries of origin of beans, and processing methods, and I tend to stick to them. I love coffee festivals because I can try coffees from different roasters, interesting processing methods, and those high-end beans.
